The sun takes an integral role in the photosynthesis stage of the Carbon Cycle. Photosynthesis refers to the process by which plants take in carbon dioxide and water (the products of respiration), and convert it to oxygen, powered by the energy of the sun.

Plants extract the carbon dioxide from the air and use it in photosynthesis process to feed themselves. The carbon dioxide enters the leaves of the plant through small pores called stomata. Once the process is done, the plant releases Oxygen, or O2, into the surrounding air.

The sun provides energy. Plants transform the sun’s energy into stored chemical energy during photosynthesis. This is an amazing process in which plants take carbon dioxide, water, and the sun’s photons, and produce carbohydrates and oxygen.

The temperature and pressure in the Sun’s core will soar to 10 times their current values. When the temperature in the core reaches about 100 million degrees, the helium will begin to fuse into carbon by a reaction known as the triple-alpha process, because it converts three helium nuclei into one carbon atom.

Sunlight travels at the speed of light. Photons emitted from the surface of the Sun need to travel across the vacuum of space to reach our eyes. The short answer is that it takes sunlight an average of 8 minutes and 20 seconds to travel from the Sun to the Earth.

Water is the source of all life, the most important liquid in our ecosystem – all plants, insects and animals, including you!, cannot survive without it.

The Sun is the major source of energy for organisms and the ecosystems of which they are a part. Producers, such as plants and algae, use energy from sunlight to make food energy by combining carbon dioxide and water to form organic matter. This process begins the flow of energy through almost all food webs.
