“We’re no longer going to stick or take an uncompromising position on the sanctity of the MAGTF,” Watson said. He noted that the MAGTF is still how the Marines prefer to fight but other means might be necessary to meet the end. Gone are the days of the Marine Corps trying to be all things to everyone, he said.

A Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF), commanded by a lieutenant general, is composed of a MEF headquarters group (MEF HQG), a Marine division (MARDIV), a Marine aircraft wing (MAW), and a Marine logistics group (MLG).

All MAGTFs consist of four core elements—a command element, a ground combat element (GCE), an aviation combat element (ACE), and a logistics combat element (LCE), as illustrated in figure 2-4.

A Marine expeditionary unit (MEU) normally deploys with the logistic capability to sustain itself with some classes of supply for up to 15 days, a brigade-sized MAGTF (MEF forward) for up to 30 days, and a Marine expeditionary force (MEF) for up to 60 days.

Job Requirements of MOS 0511, the MAGTF Planning Specialist Applicants for MOS 055 must have a GT score of 110 or higher. An applicant must have or be eligible for a top-secret security clearance and must be a U.S. citizen. As for training, applicants must also complete the MAGTF Plans Basic Course.
