What makes Skidmore most unique is the Scribner Freshman Seminar Program. In addition, each seminar has a peer mentor—an upperclassman who sits in on the class and provides academic and social support. Skidmore is in the town of Saratoga Springs in upstate New York.

Skidmore students are generally pretty well off, but there are financial aid kids like me. Skidmore is a very liberal school. There are lots of Jews at Skidmore and it is pretty white. Students don’t wear sweats to class and there are lots of artsy looking kids.

Skidmore College reported 265 safety-related incidents involving students while on campus in 2019. Of the 3,990 colleges and universities that reported crime and safety data, 3,713 of them reported fewer incidents than this. Based on a student body of 2,613 that works out to about 101.42 reports per thousand students.

Skidmore is a beautiful campus in scenic Saratoga Springs, NY. Freshmen can have cars on campus and there is a free bus to and from downtown, so travel is a breeze.

Bates College admissions is most selective with an acceptance rate of 12%. Half the applicants admitted to Bates College have an SAT score between 1270 and 1480 or an ACT score of 29 and 33. However, one quarter of admitted applicants achieved scores above these ranges and one quarter scored below these ranges.

Bates is need blind. Bates, for example, calls itself need-aware on a page for international students, but the pages with frequently asked questions about financial aid and admissions don’t address whether this applies to domestic applicants.
