Holland America Line
It is a private island, owned by Holland America Line, which uses it as a port of call for the cruise ships it operates in the region. Prior to being owned by HAL, Little San Salvador was the private island of Norwegian Cruise Line.

Set on the Atlantic side of the archipelago of The Bahamas, the island of San Salvador is about 200 miles southeast of Nassau, about a 1-hour flight from Florida. The island’s capital, Cockburn Town, is located on the tranquil west coast of San Salvador.

You can get to San Salvador in a variety of ways, but it is easiest to fly. San Salvador International is the only airport on the island that serves international flights. Spirit Airlines flies from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, directly to the airport — about a one-hour flight.

It is widely believed that during Christopher Columbus’s first expedition to the New World, this island was the first land he sighted and visited on 12 October 1492. He named it San Salvador after Christ the Saviour….San Salvador Island.

It’s no lie that crime is a problem in El Salvador, but most travelers get out of the country without trouble. To avoid theft, keep your valuables out of sight and avoid wearing expensive jewelry. Don’t walk alone at night, or try to avoid walking the streets at night even in groups of travelers.

Guanahani
On August 3, 1492, Columbus set sail from Spain to find an all-water route to Asia. On October 12, more than two months later, Columbus landed on an island in the Bahamas that he called San Salvador; the natives called it Guanahani.

Tap water in El Salvador hasn’t been safe to drink for decades due to severe contamination; most Salvadorans either use a filter or buy bottled water. The day before, ANDA president Benítez stated, “a proliferation of algae in [the] Lempa [river] caused this phenomenon” but that “[the water] is not harmful to health.”

San Salvador is located at the foot of the San Salvador Volcano in El Salvador’s Valle de las Hamazas – the Valley of the Hammocks – named for its powerful seismic activity. Though the city of San Salvador was founded back in 1525, the majority of San Salvador’s historic buildings have collapsed over the years due to earthquakes.

The Bahamas is made up of over 700 islets and islands and over 2,000 cays in the Atlantic Ocean. The Bahamas is an archipelagic state composed of many large and small islands and cays.

The Bahamas doesn’t have any volcanoes . The nearest volcano is in St. Lucia which is approximately 2,155 km from the Bahamas to St. Lucia. Soufriere Volcano in St. Lucia is considered to be dormant and it last rerupted was in the 18th century. Tourists were allowed to walk on these thin layers but an incident happened, so they are only allowed to stay behind the fence.
