The hot and dry conditions in Western Australia mean there is a risk of bushfires on Rottnest Island. As an A-Class Nature Reserve the lighting of fires is prohibited and can be extremely dangerous. Care should be taken at all times and campfires are prohibited on the Island.

🤿The Basin Rottnest Island One of Rottnest’s most popular beaches, the Basin offers something for everyone. This beach has a visible reef edge which is great for snorkelling. It also has shaded areas, toilets, and small benches. The reef extends the whole length of the beach and is very safe for swimming.

Over the last week off the Western Australian coast, there has been more than 20 shark sightings, with 11 of those being off Rottnest Island.

Danger to humans Because of the snake’s size and highly toxic venom the Dugite is considered to be very dangerous to humans.

The Shuttle bus runs between the main accommodation areas on Rottnest Island. It returns to the Settlement Bus Stop and then continues to the airport (on request) and Kingstown Barracks before returning to the Settlement. The service runs regularly from 7.30am.

The shuttle bus to Geordie Bay, Longreach Bay, Fays Bay and Kingstown Barracks attracts a small per person fee of $3 per day or $5 per week. Children under 5 years travel free.
