The volcanic island of Nisyros (Nisiros) lies north of Rhodes, a craggy, mountainous and fertile speck in the Aegean Sea. The volcano that forms the greater part of Nisyros last erupted in 1888 but it is one of the most active in the region.

To reach the steps to the Lindos town acropolis, you need to walk through the town first. At the bottom of the stairs you can choose either to be taken up by donkey (for a charge) or simply walk just like people did in ancient times.

by bus or taxi ? Yes, it’s quite a pleasant walk as you’re beachside pretty much all the way. When my parents stayed in Ixia they walked into Rhodes Town most evenings.

Many travelers think Rhode and Crete are both great options, but Rhodes has the advantage of a sight-rich walkable old town where you can see a lot in a few hours. Rhodes is a much smaller island than Crete and hence more manageable, yet still big enough to keep you busy for 4 or 4 days.
