RHEIA (Rhea) was the Titanis (Titaness) mother of the gods, and goddess of female fertility, motherhood, and generation. But Rhea bore her youngest, Zeus, in secret and hid him away in a cave in Krete (Crete) guarded by shield-clashing Kouretes (Curetes).

Rhea is the goddess of earth, and fertility. Her mother is Gaia and her father is Uranus. Rhea is the goddess of Earth but she is also looked at as the mother of all goddesses.

Gaia

Rhea (Rheia, Opis, Ops) Rhea was a Titan goddess of fertility and motherhood. She was very gentle and comfortable. Her name actually means “ease” as “at ease” and therefore this was probably the reason she was interpreted and worshiped as a goddess of comfort and ease.

She had strengths and weaknesses like every other person, her strengths were that she was a fertile Goddess, and in defense of her children, she was a crafty and daring person. Her weakness was that she put up with Cronus eating her children for too long and saving them at a later time.

As she helped instigate the Titanomachy, she was not imprisoned by Zeus in Tartarus once it concluded. She seems to have retained a palace in Phrygia – according to Nonnus, it was there that she nursed young Dionysus and helped to cure some of the madness bestowed on him by Hera.

The most widely known example is probably the God of War series. The protagonist Kratos main motivation is to kill Zeus. In The episode of Xena Warrior Princess “God Fearing Child” Hercules kills Zeus when the King of Olympus tries to kill Xena’s daughter.

Cronus — or more accurately, Kronos (Κρόνος) — ascended the throne after defeating his father Uranus (the Sky). Soon, he was warned by a prophecy (some say by his mother Gaia, the earth) that he would be dethroned by his own son. In order to avoid this fate, he swallowed each of his children as they were born.

Records indicate that 8,025 girls in the United States have been named Rhea since 1880. The greatest number of people were given this name in 2004, when 266 people in the U.S. were given the name Rhea. Those people are now 16 years old.
