Classification. The Yadavs are included in the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) category in the Indian states of Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.

Purusha

Brahmins are at the top of the four Hindu castes, consisting of clergy and intellectuals. Suppose we consider the Vedic documents. The Brahmins were advisors to the Maharajas, Mughals, and officials of the army.

According to Ayodhya Prasad Sah, the title was also used by some Brahmins in parts of Odisha, although it is recommended historically for the Kshatriyas.

Bhumihars, who originally used Brahmin surnames, also started affixing Singh to their names. In Bihar and Jharkhand, the surname came to associated with power and authority, and was adopted by people of multiple castes, including Brahmin zamindars. The surname ‘Singh’ is used by many caste groups in Bihar.

Kshatriyas: Next to Brahmans are the Kshatriyas in varna ranking. They comprise very powerful castes as they are traditionally warriors and play a major role in defence.

Even in Rajasthan, many Rajput castes are non-vegetarian. Food politics is nothing but identity politics, part of the sanskritisation inducement held out by Hindu outfits. Become-vegetarian-get-a-higher-caste is the subliminal message, as if eating meat is a political act against an imaginary Hindu sanskriti.

The Meena tribe is divided into several clans and sub-clans (adakhs), which are named after their ancestors. A sub-group known as “Ujwal Meena” (also “Ujala Meena” or “Parihar Meena”) seek higher status, and claim to be Rajputs, thus distinguishing themselves from the Bhil Meenas.

Muslim Rajputs are the descendants of Rajputs of Northern regions of the Indian subcontinent who are followers of Islam. Today, Muslim Rajputs can be found in present-day Northern India and eastern parts of Pakistan. They are further divided into different clans.
