Much like knowing stadiums overcharge for beers, it’s no secret that airport exchanges are an expensive option for trading in money. Most charge a fee or service charge of anywhere from $5 to $15, and the exchange rate you get can be seven to 15 percent worse than the standard bank rate.

Currency exchange shops and kiosks in airports are not the best places to exchange money. For the best rates, try a local bank or a bank ATM to make your currency exchanges. Check to see if your U.S. bank offers foreign ATM fee refunds for using a foreign ATM. Not all currency exchanges charge the same rate.

George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Texas, has four pet relief areas outside Terminals A, B, C and D. In addition, Continental Airlines operates a 1,100ft2 onsite kennel for pets utilising the PetSafe service. It is the first airline-owned kennel within an airport property in USA.

Service animals are very welcome at HOU. Animal relief areas are located at Level 1, near Ground Transportation Zone 4 and the Red Garage, and near Level 2 near Gate 20. HOU is a smoke-free facility, but designated smoking areas are outside Levels 1 and 2, at least 25 feet from exit doors.

The compact terminal makes it really easy to navigate, and getting through security is a breeze. But it doesn’t have nearly as many amenities or airlines as George Bush Intercontinental.

The below-ground Subway train provides transportation between terminals while outside security (pre-security). Free, operates every day from 3:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. Closed between 12:30 a.m. and 3:30 a.m.

Terminal B Hours: 7:00 a.m.- 8:00 p.m.

TSA screening times vary, depending on departure times. Mid-day, they range from 5-20 minutes, but you can do a same-day check of screening line times at: http://fly2houston.com/iah.

The TSA advises arriving at the airport two hours before your flight for domestic travel and three hours before for international travel.
