Gmail supports only POP3 and IMAP and these must first be “activated”. See Gmail: Get Started with IMAP and POP3 for instructions on how enable access from Gmail and configure the e-mail client.

Incoming connections to the IMAP server at imap.gmail.com:993 and the POP server at pop.gmail.com:995 require SSL. The outgoing SMTP server, smtp.gmail.com , requires TLS. Use port 465 , or port 587 if your client begins with plain text before issuing the STARTTLS command.

Step 2: Change SMTP & other settings in your email client

Google’s Gmail SMTP server is a free SMTP service which anyone who has a Gmail account can use to send emails. Username: your Gmail account (e.g. [email protected]) Password: your Gmail password. Port: 465 (SSL required) or 587 (TLS required)

How to Find the SMTP Server for Gmail

1. Gmail SMTP server address: smtp.gmail.com.
2. Gmail SMTP name: Your full name.
3. Gmail SMTP username: Your full Gmail address (e.g. [email protected])
4. Gmail SMTP password: The password that you use to log in to Gmail.
5. Gmail SMTP port (TLS): 587.
6. Gmail SMTP port (SSL): 465.

Set up the app or device with the Gmail SMTP server On your device or in the app, enter smtp.gmail.com as the server address. In the Port field, enter one of the following numbers: If you’re using SSL, enter 465. If you’re using TLS, enter 587.

Select File > Add Account. Enter your email address and click Connect. Outlook will launch a Gmail window that asks for your password. Once Outlook finishes adding your Gmail account, you can add another email account or select Done.

SMTP Server This can be a name (ex: smtp.gmail.com) or a dotted IP address (ex: 12.34. 56.78).

IP addresses can be considered sensitive information. As such, Gmail may hide sender IP address information from outgoing mail headers in some circumstances. Gmail doesn’t include the IP address of the sender when the sender is using Gmail’s web interface to send email.

Can You Always Trace An Email Address? Yes and No. For example, someone who sends a message to your hotmail account shows in the X-Originating IP section of the headers. However, someone who sends you a message from GMail will ONLY trace back to a Google IP addresses.

For Google Voice, for instance, you can look up what the police would need to listen in to your voice mail. Police face less of a challenge, though, to find out who owns a particular Gmail address. All that takes is a subpoena — no probable cause required, and — often — no judge.

See someone’s contact information

1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gmail app .
2. Select an email.
3. At the top left of the email, tap the avatar.
4. Scroll down to “Contact info.”
