Venezuelan education starts at the preschool level, and can be roughly divided into Nursery (ages below 4) and Kindergarten (ages 4-6). English education continues and schools may choose between giving Ethics or Catholic Religion. Students are referred to as “blue shirts”. Venezuelans cannot choose their classes.

Education of Venezuela. Basic education is free and compulsory between the ages of 6 and 15. Secondary education, which lasts for 2 years, is also free but not required. More than nine-tenths of Venezuelans age 15 and older are literate.

Education in Venezuela is regulated by the Venezuelan Ministry of Education. In 2010, Venezuela ranked 59th of 128 countries on UNESCO’s Education for All Development Index. Nine years of education are compulsory. The school year is from September to June–July.

High Dropout Rates and Limited Faculty Members. Several students living in Venezuela have missed more than 40 percent of class due to school cancellations, strikes, protests or vacation days. About 400 employees have quit one of Venezuela’s top science universities, Simon Bolivar University, in the past 2 years.

Students are required to attend school from the age of 6 and complete the first cycle known as basic education (educación básica) which is free and compulsory. Under the 1999 constitution, higher education in Venezuela remains free with access to more than 90 institutions of higher education.

School uniforms are used in Venezuela. By Venezuelan decree, uniforms are required at all schools in all grades. Boys wear navy trousers and girls wear navy skirts or trousers, depending on the school. The shirts have short sleeves and the colour varies by the level in which the student is.

– Upon completion of Diversified Secondary, students are awarded the title of Baccalaureate (Título de Bachiller), and upon completion of vocational secondary they receive the Técnico Medio. These credentials are equivalent to U.S. high school graduation.

English. English is a foreign language with a great demand in Venezuela. It is spoken by many academics and professionals and by some members of the middle and high social classes.

Venezuelan education is governed by the Ministry of Education with every citizen having the right to an education. There are both public and private schools at all levels, but since Venezuela runs a highly centralized educational system, both are subject to the same standards determined by the government.

There are a large number of universities in Venezuela, both public and private. Some of the important Venezuela universities are University of Venezuela, Santa Maria University, Simon Bolivar University, University of Caracas , Los Andes University , Open University, and Andres Bello Catholic University .

Education in Venezuela is compulsory up to high school. Classes are conducted in Spanish in non-sectarian schools. Education is free for all, and every citizen has the right to attend public schools. The educational system in Venezuela is highly centralized. For this reason, changes or innovations that occur will affect the whole country.

Higher education in Venezuela is free for citizens as declared under the 1999 constitution and receives 35 percent of the education budget. In 2002, more than 70 percent of higher education students came from the wealthiest of the population. To address this problem, the government established the Bolivarian University System.
