Duty implies an obligation or moral commitment which an individual is expected to perform. Responsibility refers to the liability which is assumed or accepted by a person, as a part of his job role or position.

Duties may be classified as follows :

• Legal Duties and Moral Duties: A legal duty is an act the opposite of which is a legal wrong.
• Positive or Negative Duties:
• Primary and Secondary Duties:
• Universal General and Particular Duties:
• Relative and Absolute Duties:

legal duty. n. the responsibility to others to act according to the law. Proving the duty (such as not to be negligent, to keep premises safe, or to drive within the speed limit) and then showing that the duty was breached are required elements of any lawsuit for damages due to negligence or intentional injuries.

In DHDR Article 1 “duty” and “responsibility” are defined for the purpose of the declaration: “duty” means an ethical or moral obligation; and “responsibility”, an obligation that is legally binding under existing international law. The DHDR addresses simultaneously the responsibilities of individuals and groups.

U.S. citizens must comply with certain mandatory obligations, including: Obeying the law. Every U.S. citizen must obey federal, state and local laws, and pay the penalties that can be incurred when a law is broken. Paying taxes.

Job responsibilities are what an organization uses to define the work that needs to be performed in a role and the functions that an employee is accountable for.

Responsibilities of the employee

• Legislation relating to employees. Section 7.
• Duty of care to themselves. An employee must take reasonable care of their own health and safety.
• Duty of care to others.
• Interfering with or misusing equipment.

• Personal protective equipment.
• Agency or temporary worker.

Rights are freedoms we have that are protected by our laws, while responsibilities are duties or things that we should do.

Being a good citizen is important in caring for others, respecting the law, protecting the environment and improving the community. Citizenship can be defined as membership of a particular community or country and building good relationships with people within the community.

Good citizens are people who are engaged, in big or small ways, in considering the needs of others in their community. Citizenship means more than knowing how the government functions. Good citizenship in practice is understanding, appreciating and doing things that make life better for yourself and for others.

Active citizens are also defined in opposition to ‘good citizens’, who tend to obey the law, be polite and well-behaved, respect individual rights, address moral virtues of care and concern for others, be good neighbours, and generally relegate ideas of the good life to their private sphere (Crick and Lockyer, 2010).

In sociology, there are different categories of social roles:

• cultural roles: roles given by culture (e.g. priest)
• social differentiation: e.g. teacher, taxi driver.
• situation-specific roles: e.g. eye witness.
• bio-sociological roles: e.g. as human in a natural system.
• gender roles: as a man, woman, mother, father, etc.
