Parents need to know that Coraline will scare young kids. Slightly less creepy than the book on which it was based, the movie is still quite dark, and the “other” world that Coraline discovers turns into a frightening, dangerous place where she could very well die (and other ghost children already have).

Neil Gaiman’s Coraline is a can’t-miss classic that enthralls readers age 8 to 12 but also adults who enjoy a perfect smart spooky read.

I feel like Coraline is a very relatable character. I feel like she is relatable because she is going through a struggle that every kid feels like they have. Not getting enough attention. Her parents are always busy with work and don’t have time to have quality time with her.

“Coraline” is simply one of the best animated films ever made: The plots is brilliantly developed, the animation is detailed and beautiful to look at, the characters are fascinating and interesting, and the world created by Neil Gaiman and Henry Selick it’s simply captivating, but mysterious and dangerous and well.

The movie version is a lot ‘scarier’ than the book. There’s more show: the Other Father’s metamorphosis, Wybie’s sewn-up smile, the transformation of the Other Mother into a creepy metal spider thing, the garden turning against her, the creepy mice-rats in the circus.

There is no logical reason for Wybie, because the directors just wanted to put a little boy in the movie for more drama. There is no such character in the book. In the actual story, Coraline barely got any help and it was only from the cat.

Due to the cat’s magical nature and it’s acts of protecting and aiding Coraline Jones from the beldam, and due to the beldam’s fondness of children, it is possible that the cat’s continued presence near Wybie Lovat is to protect him from the beldam.

Adding Wybie allows Coraline to use him primarily as a sounding board to rely important discoveries and observations to the audience and to learn background, as Wybie’s grandmother has an awful and heartbreaking connection with the house.

In turn, Coraline is extremely dismissive and unnecessarily cruel to her new neighbor Wyborne “Wybie” Lovat (Robert Bailey Jr.). Wybie often has verbal diarrhea, it’s true, but does that warrant Coraline calling him “Why-were-you-born,” especially when she knows he’s being raised by his grandmother?

The Beldam learned that the Other Wybie has helped Coraline escape, so she kills him and leaves his remaining clothing hung up on a flag pole on top of the Other Mr. Bobinsky’s rooftop, which leads to the end of Other Wybie’s appearance.

Coraline overcomes great odds, defeats the evil other mother, saves her parents, and rescues the trapped souls of three children.

Wybie may be of black/mixed ethnicity, which is evident from his hair, facial features, and tanned complexion, as well as because Mrs. Lovat is African-American. Wybie has coarse, curly, dark brown hair. He also has hazel eyes and a tanned complexion as mentioned before.

Coraline’s hair isn’t naturally blue. She probably dyed it at some point before moving into the Pink Palace, This can be seen because her eyebrows are brown and in her family picture with her parents, her hair is light brown, not blue.

But when Coraline asks for a clue for her parents the other mother simply taps her button eye peculiarly. It’s not hard to believe that Coraline seeing her parents in the mirror and snow globe was simply part of the other mother’s deception.

The Other Wybie is physically identical to the original except in that he has Button eyes and slightly better posture….Other Wybie.

“Do svidaniya (До свиданья)” means “Till (the next) meeting”, basically “Until we meet again.” In the film, Mr. Bobinsky narrowly escaped accidental castration at the hands of Coraline.

Ever notice how Wybie never stands up straight? He has scoliosis. Curvature of the spine. The Other Wybie doesn’t have this, which either meant Coraline was irritated at this or was a bit more worried about him than she led him to believe.

13 Cracked Car. When the Jones family first settles into their new home, Coraline and her mom, Mel, have a conversation in their kitchen. Mel mentions something about a car accident, which is why she is wearing a neck brace.

In the movie, when she dresses up for the theater, it reveals that she wears a wig. The author, Neil Gaiman, confirmed in his tumblr that Miss Spink and Miss Forcible are a couple.

But the ‘other mother’ from Coraline’s alternate reality is a witch who wants to trap her forever. Each time Coraline went to that alternate world she remembers everything. At a point, “other mother” trapped Coraline’s parent using the same way she provoked Coraline to enter in her world (using dolls).
