Sealed batteries do not need to be vented. Although most of the normal gasses (oxygen and hydrogen) produced in an SVR battery will be recombined and not escape, oxygen and hydrogen will escape from the battery in an overcharged condition (which is typical with any battery type).

These vent ports allow the gas that is produced in the battery to escape. On applications with a single vent tube, the opposing vent opening on the battery cover must be plugged using the vent plug. Instructions for using the vent plug are included on the battery positive post cover.

Don’t remove or disable safety features—like fire button locks or vent holes—that are designed to prevent battery overheating and explosions. Only use batteries recommended for your device. Don’t mix different brands of batteries, use batteries with different charge levels, or use old and new batteries together.

Registered. You have a major fire hazard or even an explosion in your boot, as while lead acid batteries are being “used” they release toxic and flammable gasses. Also the gasses could/will leak into the cabin .. if that doesn’t kill you, then you’d prolly lose a damn few brain cells.
