SI stands for “Slightly Included,” but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad grade. SI diamonds will often give you the most bang for your buck. Of the lower clarity grades, we recommend these. Like all diamonds, even flawless ones, SI diamonds have imperfections.

Conclusion. F color diamonds look fantastic, with an almost completely colorless appearance that’s ideal for both white and colored metals alike. As the least expensive color grade in the colorless area of the diamond color scale, an F color diamond offer slightly better value than a D or E diamond.

The D color grade is a good choice for round brilliant cut diamonds only if you have a very high budget that also allows you to spend on cut, clarity and carat weight. In any other situation, we recommend the H to J color grades for round brilliant cut diamonds in white gold or platinum.

Diamond color is important: Most diamonds used in engagement rings are near-colorless with hints of yellow or brown. All things being equal, the more colorless a diamond is, the rarer it is, and this rarity will be reflected in its price.

Cut is the most important determinant of the overall appearance of a diamond. No Clarity grade can help a poorly cut diamond; however, an excellent cut diamond can have a lower color (G-H) or clarity (SI1-SI2) and still look quite beautiful due to its superior ability to create sparkle and brilliance. The color grade is more important than the clarity grade because cushion-cut diamonds tend to retain a lot of color. If you don’t want any hints of color, look for a cushion cut diamond with a color grade of H or above.

Diamonds occur in a variety of colors—steel gray, white, blue, yellow, orange, red, green, pink to purple, brown, and black. Colored diamonds contain interstitial impurities or structural defects that cause the coloration; pure diamonds are perfectly transparent and colorless.

How Big is a 1 Carat Diamond? Remember, carats are actually a measure of weight, not size, so the measurements of a 1 carat diamond will differ from stone to stone. But if we’re talking about your average round brilliant, they’re going to land somewhere in the region of 6.5mm diameter. Or about 1/4 inch.

Is a 3 carat diamond ring too big? It’s all relative. While a 3 carat round diamond may be perfectly proportioned to your finger, a 3 carat Asscher cut diamond may look too small, or a 3 carat oval too big.

How Big Is A 1.5 Carat Diamond? A 1.5-carat diamond has a diameter of 7.4 mm. That’s 1.0 mm larger than the diameter of a 1-carat diamond, and 0.6 mm smaller than that of a 2-carat diamond. So, everything considered, a 1.5-carat diamond is truly outstanding.
