What’s the idea behind the C63 AMG Edition 507? In the simplest terms, the Edition 507 is a more potent C63 in a package that’s designed to be serviceable for everyday use. The “507” in name denotes the horsepower of the C63’s 6.2-liter V8, up 56 ponies and a handful of foot-pounds compared to the standard C63.

The 2013 C63 AMG with the Development Package costs $68,455 and $70,985 for the sedan and coupe, respectively, including destination and gas guzzler charges; we expect the 2014 C63 AMG Edition 507 to start in the low $70,000 range.

This is the Mercedes C63 AMG Edition 507, an uprated version of the standard C63 that has been revealed at the Geneva Motor Show. This means that power is up from 451bhp to 500bhp – or 507 metric horsepower, hence the special model’s name – regardless of whether you opt for the C63 Coupe, saloon or estate.

The term 4Matic indicates it comes with standard all-wheel drive. The Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG gets a 6.2-liter V8 that sends 451 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a specialized seven-speed automatic transmission. Opting for the Edition 507 package ups power to 507 hp and 450 lb-ft.

The C63 AMG coupe is the final place of refuge for Benz’s 451-hp, naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V-8. With its sharp throttle response and unholy roar, the engine makes Mercedes’ smallest rear-drive coupe feel as if it’s eaten a jar full of hot peppers laced with steroids.

Audi, BMW and Alfa Romeo all proved more reliable. An alarm and engine immobiliser are standard on all versions of the C63 S, while security experts Thatcham Research awarded the car five out of five for resisting theft and four out of five for resisting being broken into.

All current C63 S versions are powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 503bhp, and power is sent to the rear wheels via a nine-speed 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox, which replaces the older 7G-Tronic.

Production reached over 2.4 million worldwide, and the W204 was the brand’s best selling vehicle at the time.

To date, only five Mercedes models have been given the Black Series treatment— the SLK 55, the CLK 63, the SL 65, the SLS 63, and most recently, the C63….Detailing.

The 507 wears a set of gorgeously spidery 19in forged alloy wheels, while the front axle gets new 360mm ‘composite’ brake discs. That’s not carbon-composite, however, but weight-saving aluminium for the inner ‘barrel’ and cast iron for the outer disc. Curiously, a locking diff is not standard.

The Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Edition 507 gets the ‘M156’ V8, with a revised ECU, new conrods, a lightweight crankshaft and forged pistons adopted from the SLS AMG. This brings a weight saving of three kilograms to the internals, while cogs are swapped via the familiar and sharp-shifting (for an auto) MCT seven-speed transmission.

This final, 507-hp version of the C63 gets two-tone seats, forged wheels, the Black Series hood, and a lot of fond staff farewells. What the 507 option doesn’t do is make the C63 any quicker than the ’12 C63 coupe.
