They usually have steep, sloping sides and sharp or rounded ridges, and a high point, called a peak or summit. Most geologists classify a mountain as a landform that rises at least 1,000 feet (300 meters) or more above its surrounding area. A mountain range is a series or chain of mountains that are close together.

the Dominican Republic

Pico Duarte is the highest peak in the Dominican Republic, and in all the Caribbean. At 3,098 m (10,164 ft) above sea level, it gives Hispaniola the 16th-highest maximum elevation of any island in the world.

Mount Chimborazo’s peak is the furthest point on Earth from Earth’s center. The summit is over 6,800 feet [2,072 meters] farther from Earth’s center than Mount Everest’s summit. Mauna Kea is the tallest mountain from base to peak at more than 33,500 feet [10,210 meters].

In 1847 “Kangchenjunga” was discovered as highest mountain before discovery of mount everest. Kanchanjunga ( 8,586 m) was considered to be the highest mountain from 1838 until 1852. Mount Everest was declared the highest peak of the world in 1852 and confirmed in 1856.

Mount Everest is called the world’s highest mountain because it has the “highest elevation above sea level.” We could also say that it has the “highest altitude.” The peak of Mount Everest is 8,848.86 meters (29,031.69 feet) above sea level. No other mountain on Earth has a higher altitude.

Monte Pico

K2, at 8,611 metres (28,251 ft) above sea level, is the second-highest mountain on Earth, after Mount Everest (at 8,849 metres (29,032 ft)).

According to their measurements, Mount Everest is 29,031.7 feet tall, about two feet taller than the most widely accepted height. Everest’s height is slowly increasing because of the shifting of Earth’s tectonic plates, and may have shrunk after a magnitude 7.8 earthquake in 2015.

The ‘Seven Summits’ are comprised of the highest mountains on each of the seven continents of the Earth: Everest, Aconcagua, Denali, Kilimanjaro, Elbrus, Mount Vinson and Carstensz Pyramid.

Mount Kosciusko, Australia is the easiest and cheapest of the Seven Summits. With its low elevation of 7,310 ft, gradual slopes, and mild climate it is widely considered the easiest climb on the list. The hike itself is about 16 miles and can be strenuous, but is more of a scramble hike than a mountain climb.

Mont Blanc (4808m) is harder than Aconcagua (6960m) and much harder than Kilimanjaro (5895m) The effort required on summit day exceeds that of running a marathon. You absolutely MUST have solid endurance fitness to do this (mountaineering experience not required)
