This changes with the World’s First Six-Function MultiPro™ Tailgate, offered on GMC Sierra 1500 and Sierra Heavy Duty. Starting early 2021, the MultiPro Tailgate will be standard on 2021 Sierra 1500 SLE, Elevation, SLT, AT4, and Denali trims. It will be available on the base Sierra 1500 trim.

Closing the Power Up/Down Tailgate

1. The touchpad on the top of the tailgate.
2. The button on the interior switch: Press and hold the button.
3. The button on the key fob: Press, then press again and hold down the button.
4. Lift-to-Close (Lift Assist): Lift up on the open gate slightly and hold it — the gate will power close.

GMC Sierra’s do-it-all MultiPro tailgate trickles down to the Silverado lineup. Chevrolet had said it was adding a multi-function tailgate to the Silverado pickup for 2022; now it’s been confirmed as available in early 2021. The tailgate is similar to the MultiPro feature on current-gen GMC Sierra pickups.

However, in its lowest configuration, the tailgate can come into contact with a ball hitch, potentially damaging the tailgate in the process.
