Watts X Time / 1000 X Cost per KWH = Total cost. Let’s use a regular 100 watt light bulb for example, lit continuously for one year (8760 hrs.), at a cost of 12 cents per KWH. 100 watts times 8760 hrs. = 876,000 divided by 1000 (converts to KWH) = 876 KWH times 12 cents = $105.12.

Typically you can use more than 15 amps on a branch circuit for a period of time, depending on how much over the rated limit you are. Since this uses 1800 Watts, 120 Volts would yield 1800 / 120 = 15 Amps, which is the typical circuit breaker rating for most outlets (excluding ranges, refrigerators, and so on).

A “normal” incandescent bulb costs about 0.75cents per hour, and LEDs or CFLs cost only one-sixth of that – so leaving the lights on (either overnight or while you’re at work for the day, say both are about 8 hours) costs you roughly 6 cents for a normal light and a bit over 1 cent for modern bulbs.

Other Factors. Both types of lighting are energy-efficient when compared to traditional incandescent bulbs. LED technology costs more than CFL and fluorescent lighting, but the LED bulbs also last longer and use less energy than fluorescent bulbs.
