Everton have played in the top flight of English football for all but four seasons since the 1888 creation of the Football League, playing at the top level continuously since 1954.

Although they had a great eighties, things soon waned, and the last time Everton won a trophy was the FA Cup in 1995, beating Manchester United 1-0.

First Division title

Liverpool are the Catholic team and play in red at Anfield. Everton are the Protestant team and play in blue at Goodison Park.

Everton were relegated to the second division in 1930/1931. Within a year they were promoted again, and remained in the first division until they were relegated again in 1950/51 (which resulted in three seasons in the second tier).

City

Manchester City are one of twelve English football clubs to have won a European title, in City’s case the 1969–70 Cup Winners’ Cup….Manchester City F.C. in international football.

Manchester United

While Manchester United lead the way in terms of league titles, it is their historic rivals Liverpool FC who have claimed the most Football League Cup trophies. The team from Merseyside has lifted the cup a total of eight times, most recently back in 2003.
