Junior high schools are for students in grades seven through nine, and middle schools are for students in grades six through eight. As a result, middle school students start high school in ninth grade, and junior high students start high school in 10th grade.

Fifty years after the first junior high schools were established, educators began to call for middle schools–new schools that had a different grade organization and a more developmentally responsive program–in order to provide a more gradual and appropriate transition between the elementary and high school years.

Yes! It’s true, middle school grades matter. They don’t count towards high school/ college credits, but they count in other ways.

Middle schools in the United States usually cover grades 6–8, but sometimes 7-9, 7-8 or even 5-8. “Middle schools” and “junior high schools” are schools that span grades 5 or 6 to 8 and 7 to 8, respectively, but junior high schools spanning grades 7 to 9 are also common.

Elementary school is kindergarten through 5th grade (ages 5-10), middle school is grades 6-8 (ages 11-13), and high school is grades 9-12 (ages 14-18). We offer the resources below to assist you with information on local area public schools and aftercare programs.

H1 (First Class Honours): 80% or above. H2A (Second Class Honours – A Division): 75 – 79% H2B (Second Class Honours – B Division): 70 – 74% H3 (Third Class Honours): 65 – 69%

C is anywhere between 70% and 79% D – this is still a passing grade, and it’s between 59% and 69% F – this is a failing grade.

Grade 8 is the equivalent of in between grades A* and A. Grade 7 is the equivalent of a grade A. Grade 6 is the equivalent of just above a grade B.
