There are more than 10,000 different species, or types, of grasshoppers. Each species has unique characteristics when it comes to geographic location, anatomy and trends in behavior. In addition to their scientific names, the following types of grasshoppers have been given common names.

Katydids are a family of insects related to grasshoppers and crickets. They’re also called bush crickets or long-horned grasshoppers in some regions.

Scientific name: Omocestus viridulus. The Common green grasshopper can be found in damp meadows and woodland rides throughout summer. Males can be seen rubbing their legs against their wings to create a ‘song’ for the females.

Why Do Cats Fart? Flatulence typically results from a buildup of gas in the digestive system, which is then released from the body. In most instances, cat flatulence occurs when your kitty swallows too much air, or it could be related to allergies or food.

A cat may pounce on cockroaches and occasionally kill one. However, there is no guarantee that a cat will do so. Well-fed domestic cats may have little drive to hunt. A cat may also be inconsistent with killing cockroaches, making it ineffective at getting rid of the pests.

Many cats and dogs enjoy chasing stink bugs and eating them. Thankfully, stink bugs are not poisonous. They can, however, cause pets to vomit or drool excessively because of irritations in the gastrointestinal tract. These symptoms should pass on their own, so you don’t need to worry.

However, there does not seem to be serious, long-term health effects from a pet eating or chewing on a stink bug. Franklin, a veterinarian at the Mid-Atlantic Veterinary Hospital, stink bugs aren’t poisonous, but the smelly secretions from stink bugs will irritate the gastrointestinal tract of dogs and cats.

Seasonal cues trigger stink bugs’ search for winter quarters; the shortening days and falling temperatures sending them scuttling for cover. If they sheltered beneath tree bark or mulch, it would be one thing. But they prefer sharing your home over winter, piling into cracks and crevices by the thousands.

Stink bugs do not do any structural damage to homes and they do not sting or bite. Stink bugs release foul smelling chemicals to avoid predators. When a BMSB finds a suitable winter shelter, it secretes a chemical odor that attracts other stink bugs. Killing a stink bug does not attract more stink bugs.

If you only have a few stink bugs the best strategy would be to just gently scoop up the stink bug with a piece of paper, or toilet paper, and flush it down the toilet. This will not threaten the stink bug so it will not release its foul odor, but will remove it from your house permanently.
