Guinea hens can lay an egg a day and will usually lay in four clusters of 20 to 30 eggs with a break in between. 5. The hen may start egg laying from 20 weeks of age depending on the time of year they were hatched.

A guinea hen may go broody only to change her mind before the hatch begins, leaving the eggs to chill and the embryo to die. A guinea hen may go broody outdoors and will often lose her life to a predator.

Guinea fowl eggs take 28 days to hatch. In the wild they will usually sit on about 12 eggs per clutch. You may decide, if you can get any of the eggs that you leave half under your guinea hen and put half in the incubator or under a broody hen. Guinea fowl should sit if they feel secure and hidden away.

Thankfully it’s easy to incubate guinea eggs so I hatched myself more, and have been hatching them every year since. The first time I incubated Guinea fowl eggs I just popped the eggs in my incubator along with chicken eggs and used all the same settings as I do for chicks.

One way to make them relatively quiet is to hatch the keets and raise them amongst chickens. A guinea fowl’s environment plays an important role in how noisy it becomes. If you can raise the keets and condition them before they become accustomed to noise, you can control the noise.

Guinea fowl are known as one of the best exterminators of pest insects. They are tick eating machines, eating up to 400 ticks a day!

Guinea fowl can be housed with chickens, but a fence will not confine them. They fly higher and range farther than chickens. Unlike chickens, they tend to pick bugs and insects from within their reach and do not normally scratch for food and worms like chickens do.
