Chromosomes are tiny rod shapes inside each cell of the body. There are 23 pairs of chromosomes (46 total) in each cell. Almost all the cells in your body have 46 chromosomes.

The Nucleus of a neuron is an oval shaped membrane-bound structure found in the soma or body of the neuron. It contains the nucleolus and chromosomes, necessary for the coded production of proteins within the cell.

Each person normally has one pair of sex chromosomes in each cell. Females have two X chromosomes, while males have one X and one Y chromosome. Early in embryonic development in females, one of the two X chromosomes is randomly and permanently inactivated in cells other than egg cells.

In humans, chromosomes 13, 14, 15, 21, and 22 are acrocentric, and all of these chromosomes are associated with Robertsonian translocations. The short arms of all of the acrocentric chromosomes contain numerous copies of the genes coding for ribosomal RNA.

There are six acrocentric chromosomes in the human genome: 13, 14, 15, 21, 22, and the Y chromosome.

When telomeres of chromosomes shorten with continued cell divisions, the chromosome ends may also fuse, forming dicentric chromosomes. The resulting dicentric chromosomes are highly unstable, giving rise to chromosomal translocations, deletions and amplifications, such as the Robertsonian translocation.

Genes are contained in chromosomes, which are in the cell nucleus. A chromosome contains hundreds to thousands of genes. Every normal human cell contains 23 pairs of chromosomes, for a total of 46 chromosomes. A trait is any gene-determined characteristic and is often determined by more than one gene.

If we talk about the uncoiled DNA, then DNA is larger than the chromosome. And if we talk about the coiled DNA, then DNA is smaller than the chromosome. When DNA gets coiled, it becomes smaller in size just in order to fit the nucleus of the cell.

The diploid human genome is thus composed of 46 DNA molecules of 24 distinct types. Because human chromosomes exist in pairs that are almost identical, only 3 billion nucleotide pairs (the haploid genome) need to be sequenced to gain complete information concerning a representative human genome.
