In January or February, female grizzly bears give birth to one to four cubs (usually two). The female will care for her young inside the den until spring, when they finally step out into the world. The mother cares for her young for at least two more years, feeding and protecting them.

Reproduction. Grizzly bears use the process of sexual reproduction to expand their species. During the mating season for grizzly bears, usually between June and July, grizzly bears will seek one another out to mate.

Grizzly bears have one of the slowest reproductive rates among terrestrial mammals, due to their late age of first reproduction, small average litter size, and the long interval between litters: it may take a single female 10 years to replace herself in a population.

Kodiak bears are a unique subspecies of the brown or grizzly bear (Ursus arctos middendorffi). They live exclusively on the islands in the Kodiak Archipelago and have been isolated from other bears for about 12,000 years.

The geographic differences between these two subspecies has also led to differences in size. Generally Kodiak bears have a larger bone structure, and therefore larger frames than grizzly bears, though both species can reach very large sizes. Grizzly bears can weigh up to 1,150 pounds.

If the contest between polar bear and Kodiak bear could occur, the polar bear would flee even more urgently than it does from grizzlies. The Kodiak bear is almost the same size as the polar bear, stronger, and has far better stamina on land.

On land they both can run at the same speed, 30km/h but the hippo tires a lot faster. Even though the Hippos skin is tough the grizzlies will be able to bite through. The hippo is less manuverable on land and if the grizzly is pacient it will win.
