Q. Why was the b29 so expensive?
That’s why no one else could build an atomic bomb in 1944: it costs too much to build and takes too long to make. The simple answer was that the plane that dropped the atomic bomb needed as much speed as possible to get out of the blast and radiation radius of the bomb.
Q. How many b29 were lost in Korean?
At least 16 B-29s were shot down over North Korea, and as many as 48 were lost in crash landings or written off because of heavy damage after returning to base. The bombers were also used as reconnaissance, weather, and rescue aircraft.
Q. Did the b29 fly in Europe?
By the time the B-29 was operational, it was of little use in Europe. The B-29 was designed as a high-altitude long-range bomber. High altitude bombing at the time meant area bombing, and after Dresden that kind of bombing of European cities was politically unpopular.
Q. Where were b29 bombers built?
A total of 3,970 B-29s were built during production at four assembly plants across the United States. These were built by Boeing at its Renton, Washington, and its Wichita, Kansas plants. Others were built by Bell Aircraft in Marietta and by the Glenn Martin Company in Omaha.
Q. How many p51 Mustangs are left?
There are only around 175 Mustangs still flying, with roughly 150 of those in the U.S. About 100 other Mustangs are on display in museums. More than 15,000 rolled off North American Aviation assembly lines in California and Texas during World War II.
