It is located about 130 miles from the heart of Las Vegas. On average, the drive takes approximately two and a half hours. Both the North Rim and South Rim (the two rims of Grand Canyon National Park) are located over 270 miles from the Las Vegas Strip. On average, both drives take approximately four and a half hours.

SOUTH RIM

We recommend between one to three days at the Grand Canyon, though you could stay for longer for a relaxed visit. With only one day at the Grand Canyon, you can check out a few viewpoints, hike into the canyon or on the Rim Trail, and catch the sunset.

Not only is it definitely worth seeing, the history behind the Hoover Dam is really cool. Especially if you’re into engineering. I’d go for a short tour, it’s informative and they go into good detail about how the dam operates.

The only road down to the bottom of the grand canyon is located on the hualapai indian reservation.

On your Grand Canyon hike, you’ll constantly be climbing stairs and walking over rocks, so you’ll need to condition your joints and muscles to handle them. The trails you choose should have an elevation gain of at least 1,000 feet.

Hiking in the Grand Canyon is so demanding that even people in excellent condition often emerge sore and fatigued. Backcountry rangers recommend that hikers make their first trip into the inner canyon on one of the park’s Corridor trails: Bright Angel Trail, South Kaibab Trail, or North Kaibab Trail.

Grand Canyon National Park has had an entrance fee since 1926. The current rate of $30 per vehicle or $25 per motorcycle has been in effect since 2015. The park is one of 117 in the National Park System that charges an entrance fee. The remaining 300 sites are free to enter.

Keep in mind the trip does not offer canyon views. 1950s era diesel locomotives power the train year-round. The cost for the tour is $65.00 per adult (age 17 and up) and $37.00 per child age 16 and under.
