Writing 1,600 words will take about 40 minutes for the average writer typing on a keyboard and 1.3 hours for handwriting. However, if the content needs to include in-depth research, links, citations, or graphics such as for a blog article or high school essay, the length can grow to 5.3 hours.

The point is you don’t have to write 4000 words a day, but if you are trying to reach a goal of more than 10,000 words in a week, there has to be a plan. It does not always mean you need to be a fast writer. It means you need to organise yourself better, and stick to a process. Writing isn’t the same as any other task.

Day 1. Your first day, you’ll only write 2,000 words. Now, with a goal of 10,000 words in just three days, that probably doesn’t make much sense. But the key to Making It Happen is to start small, break up your word count, and chip away at your progress a little at a time until, before you know it, you’re there.

10,000 words is the equivalent of 20 single-spaced A4 pages, or 40 double-spaced A4 pages.

I think anyone with sufficient background knowledge and IT skills can write 2000 words in something like an hour or so. However, quality of such a piece may be in question. Quality of content is more important than the speed, but sometimes, in my industry, speed is also needed.

I currently average 3,000 words, which I think is doable by many if they follow some of the ideas I’m sharing in this article.
