Monument Valley is definitely worth visiting on your own. You can access the majority of the scenic landscapes by paying the $20 park entrance fee. You can even enjoy 50% of the landscapes for free by driving through the U.S. Route 163.

You can drive yourself around Monument Valley Park. Once you’ve entered Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park, you’ll be able to self-drive around the beautiful terrain. With map in hand, an explorer’s spirit and good suspension (on your car), you’ll be ready for anything.

The best time to go to Monument Valley is during the spring and autumn months, when temperatures are pleasant. During the summer, it can be very hot. Plus, this is when the Valley gets to be more crowded as many people are here during their summer vacations.

The nearest town to Monument Valley is Mexican Hat, Utah, to the northeast on U.S. 163. Accommodations are also available in Kayenta, Arizona, south on U.S. 163. and Goosenecks State Park near Mexican Hat also has a campground.

Currently, there are only two hotels in Monument Valley, which means that empty rooms are difficult to find if you don’t book well in advance. When traveling during peak tourist season, try to book 3 to 6 months in advance if you want to stay in one of the Monument Valley hotels.

The nearest major airport is Cortez Municipal Airport (CEZ / KCEZ). This airport has domestic flights from Cortez, Colorado and is 111 miles from the center of Monument Valley.

Monument Valley is a wide expanse straddling the border of the U.S. states of Arizona and Utah. It is marked by enormous rock features, including mesas, cliffs, and buttes. The most famous landscape of Monument Valley probably includes the Mittens, a pair of buttes with thin “thumb” outcrops.

The Four Corners Monument Visitor Center is open year-round, playing host to a variety of Navajo cultural demonstrations, as well as vendors selling handmade Navajo jewelry, crafts and food. Or take a break during your Arizona road trip at one of the many picnic tables on-site.

Located on Navajo land, there is now a fee to enter the spot marking all four corners: $5 per person; ages 6 and younger are free (cash only). Inside, there is a marker and markings and during peak summer travel, you may have to wait a bit to get a photo taken.

Five Corners is the only place in the US where five states meet. It does not exist anywhere in the United States of America. It is most likely based on the real USA attraction, the Four Corners, which contains Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico.

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. — Tourist sites on the Navajo Nation, including the Four Corners Monument, will be closed through at least the rest of the year. The Navajo Parks and Recreation Department cited a rise in coronavirus cases on the reservation and a tribal public health order in making the announcement.
