Dried petal confetti will last a maximum of four months if it is stored in a chilled, dark place away from moisture. Collecting petals in spring will ensure they stay perfect for weddings up until September.

Spread petals in a single layer over a tea towel, scrap paper or cardboard (this is to absorb moisture from the petals). Place in a warm and dry room until dry to the touch, about 3-5 days depending on weather. To dry petals in an oven; preheat oven to 100C. Place wire racks onto baking trays.

In a bowl, combine one cup of dried rose petals, one half cup of dried lavender, and one quarter cup of dried rosemary. Add one eighth teaspoon of ground cloves and cinnamon, plus dried rosebuds and orange peels. Add a few drops of rose or lavender oil. Add one quarter teaspoon of fixative like crushed orris root.

If you would like to make your own natural petal confetti, many gardens contain rose bushes and lavender. Delphinium spires are readily available at the florist in season. Just bunch together half a dozen of any of these stems in an elastic band and hang upside down in your airing cupboard for at least a week.

As a general rule of thumb, typically around half the guests will choose to throw confetti. So, one litre of confetti should provide around ten handfuls. Therefore, if you have 100 wedding guests, assuming that 50 will want to throw confetti, you should buy at least ten litres of petals.

Look around your home to find creative materials that can be used to make confetti. Any type of paper typically works best – scrap paper, wrapping paper, construction paper, tissue paper or even flower petals! Put on a playlist you love.

First, gather rolls of crepe paper (the streamer kind). Using fringe scissors, cut the end of the streamer into fringe. Then, still using the fringe scissors, in a perpendicular motion, cut off chunks of the already fringed streamer, creating a flurry of teeny confetti.

Most table confetti are also shiny. While they are called metallic confetti they are actually metallized PVC. The simplest confetti are simply shredded paper (see ticker-tape parade), and can be made with scissors or a paper shredder. Other confetti often consist of chads punched out of scrap paper.

Instructions

1. Hold open the mouth of the balloon with a funnell and add as much confetti as you would like.
2. Fill the balloon with helium, knot and attach to ribbon.
3. Attach string to the end of the balloon.
4. Then neatly tie ribbon on to where the string is tied so to give it an amazing look.

Both look adorable! To help with adhesion, create static on the outside of your balloon to help the confetti stick. I like to rub my balloon with a wool scarf/sock. A puff of air from your mouth just prior to inflating with helium will also help.
