Talk and die syndrome takes place where a fall victim or accident victim receives a minor hit on the head that is not immediately followed by tell-tale brain injury symptoms such as unconsciousness confusion, coma, slurred speech, severe headache, or drowsiness.

How Common Is Talk and Die? Talk and die accounts for approximately 2.6 percent of fatal traumatic brain injuries. According to the National Institutes of Health, an analysis of medical records for fatal head trauma patients revealed the existence of talk and die syndrome in 15 out of 569 cases.

Get your red nose at the ready, March 19 is Red Nose Day! This special holiday got its start in England in 1988, and today it’s one of the largest fundraisers in the UK. Red Nose Day happens every two years on the second or third Friday in March. In the past 30 years, the event has raised over £1 billion.

The event raised 15 million British pounds sterling and attracted 30 million television viewers on BBC1. To date, Richard Curtis and Lenny Henry are still active participants of the Red Nose Day Telethon which continues to raise funds for numerous charities that help children in need and tackle worldwide poverty.

Red nose is a common symptom of emotions, infection, temperature changes, or even physical irritation. Red nose results from a rapid reddening of the face in response to strong emotions, such as embarrassment, anger, or high excitement. Infection is a common cause of red nose.

You’ve probably noticed a lot of photos lately of celebrities wearing red clown noses. It’s all part of an effort to bring attention to “Red Nose Day,” which started in Britain in 1988 to raise money for poverty-stricken children in the UK and Africa.

A red nose can be a sign of many things. Typically, increased blood flow to the skin on the nose causes the red color. This elevated blood flow can be from changes in emotion, like being embarrassed or drinking alcohol. It can come from inflammatory problems with the skin, such as rosacea.

When you cry though, the lacrimal glands close to your eyes pump out secretions. These glands normally function to help keep your eyes moist. But when a bawl is required, the blood vessels that service the glands dilate to supply them as they go into overdrive, and we can start to see the redness.

When we cry, we tend to make a lot of tears. These are “emotional tears,” the third type. The volume overwhelms the drainage system, causing tears to spill out of the eyes and nose. As the body works to reabsorb the liquid, it retains some in the tissue under the eyes, making the area puffy.

How can I stop crying?

1. Tilt your head up slightly to prevent tears from falling.
2. Pinch yourself on the skin between your thumb and pointer finger — the pain might distract you from crying.
3. Tense up your muscles, which can make your body and brain feel more confident and in-control, according to scientists.
