Cats can stay gone for 4-5 days. But, tomcats can stay away even longer, sometimes weeks. Especially if they are unneutered.

Cats do come back after even longer absences, so it is possible. However, your cat is an unfixed young adult male early in his sexual maturity. As a result, he is likely to have a somewhat larger territory than a neutered cat, and so roam farther as a matter of course.

Intact male cats may go missing for days at a time because they may have caught the scent of a female cat that is ready to mate. Just like with other animals, cats have strong instincts that they need to pursue. male cats will not roam or wander off and are more behaved.

Use strong smelling canned cat food that your cat can smell from a distance so your cat knows where to go for food. Also, put your cat’s litter box and any bedding that has your cat’s scent on it outside to attract your cat back to your home. Cat’s have an amazing sense of smell!

As far as we can tell, cats have a homing instinct, which means that they can perceive direction using something beyond the five ordinary senses of taste, smell, sight, touch and hearing. More often than not, they found that cats used the exit that was closest to their home location.
