If you’re planning on boosting your project the 4.8L truck engine will be perfect for you. The 4.8L can take insane amounts of boost completely stock and will really perform well. If you don’t want a barebones 5.3L or 4.8L you could always step up to a 6.2L truck block which is based on the LS3 engine.

Getting all the parts for a real strong performing motor from the junkyard can be done, and the complete project can be assembled at a cost between $2,000 to $2,500, but it’s going to take a sharp do it yourself guy that will put in the time.”

Depending on the model you select, there may be many trim levels available, but most drivers find it useful to start by comparing the LS vs. To put it most simply, the LT is a trim above the LS in almost every Chevy model. In other words, the LS model will be the most affordable, and it will still offer great value.

The LS2 is the better engine. It makes more power and ultimately has more potential with its larger displacement. But, if you are stuck on a tight budget the LS1 will suffice just fine.

The LS2 engine block has a 4.000-inch bore diameter. The cylinders can be bored to 4.030 inches. However, we recommend leaving them as thick as possible when running boost. The block can handle 850 horsepower.
