After the rumble, Dallas and Ponyboy drive to the hospital where Johnny tells Ponyboy to “Stay gold” and then dies. Dallas loses it, leaves the hospital and robs a store where the cashier shoots him. While this is happening, Ponyboy goes home were he tells everyone about Johnny and Dallas.

The book describes the Greasers as having all different types of hair color, some even having blonde hair including Dally whose hair is described as almost white, but the movie chooses to give more distinction between the Greasers and the Socs by giving the Greasers dark black hair and the Socs lighter hair colors.

Characters are the essence of a movie. Good characters are three-dimensional based on the character’s physiology, psychology, and sociology. One of the three areas may often be predominant over the others and is affected more by the story, but all have to be developed to give depth to the character.

According to Banned Books; Young Adult Novels, The Outsiders was challenged in the year of 1986, in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Churches from the United States have made public statements that the book should be kept away from young readers for the usage of language, drugs, and violence.

Summary. Shug Avery is sick, likely due to a sexually transmitted disease, and no one in the town will take her in. Both her mother and father say that Shug’s promiscuity has gotten her what she deserves.

She ends up going to Africa with them as a missionary. In Africa, Nettie is both admired (as a teacher and missionary) and despised (because she is unmarried and childless).

5. What happens between Harpo and Sofia to make them have feelings for each other once again? a) Harpo’s daughter with Mary Agnes dies at the age of nine. Sofia is so moved by his feelings for this young child that she can’t help but develop feelings for him again.

Sofia ends up in jail after “sassing” the mayor’s wife. She’s beaten so badly, she’s lucky to be alive. Sofia works in the prison laundry. She says she’s just like Celie now—subservient.

Sofia is made to clean and work in the laundry while in prison.

By being an original, a unique kind of black woman in this novel, one of the things that strikes us most forcefully about Shug is her original concept of God — particularly when compared to the limited concept of the God whom Celie believes in.
