These switches are generally designed for a quick reset, but some models may require a more involved approach.

The resistor is switched in to slow the pump during idle and cruise to reduce cabin noise and pump wear. Not having it won’t cause problems (other than noise etc) and will make tuning a bit easier (less chance of fluctuating pressures etc).

It is often found in the fuse box located in the engine bay and functions as the primary electronic switch that controls power to the fuel pump. The fuel pump relay is usually controlled by the ignition or powertrain control module, and when switched on, will provide current to the fuel pump so that it may function.

1. Locate your car’s inertial trigger or airbag control module.
2. Push the button on the inertial switch; it should be clearly marked as the fuel pump reset, and may be in a contrasting color to the case.

The Fuel Pump Driver Module controls the voltage delivered to a vehicle’s fuel pump. By controlling the voltage, the module maintains optimal fuel pressure and fuel delivery to the engine throughout its full operating range.

Usually found inside the fuel tank, the fuel pump provides pressurized fuel for the fuel injection system. Whenever the ignition is turned on, and the PCM is energized, various controller self-tests are simultaneously performed.

Insufficient flow limits cooling and lubrication of the pump. A leading cause of fuel pump failure is running the fuel tank low. This is particularly critical on late model vehicles without a fuel pressure return system. Running such a vehicle out of fuel once can permanently damage the fuel pump.

A fuel pump assembly is the unit in a gas tank that sends fuel to the engine. Also known as fuel pump module assembly, the fuel pump assembly ensures that clean, pressurized fuel reaches the fuel injectors. Fuel pump assemblies are usually located in the gas tank, submerged in the fuel.

The fuel pump runs continuously once the engine starts, and continues to run as long as the engine is running and the ignition key is on. The pump may run at a constant speed, or it may operate at a variable speed depending on engine load and speed.

Fuel pumps have even been known to last more than 200,000 miles. Experts say that after 100,000 miles, your fuel pump is more likely to fail if you are replacing a nearby part that plays a major role in the engine.

The most common cause of fuel pump failure is frequently running the tank low on fuel, which causes the motor to overheat. The second most common cause is fuel contamination, usually dirt and rust particles that clog the fuel strainer and prevent the pump from drawing enough fuel under high engine load.

Fuel pumps have been known to last for over 200,000 miles in some cases. After 100,000 miles, the failure of the pump is likely enough that if you are replacing a major part in the fuel system nearby, it may be advantageous to replace it at the same time.
