Place your other fingernails in line with the notch along the bottom edge of the Nook. Pry the back cover off. Gently pull at the notch with your middle finger and press against the back with the palm of your hand. As the cover starts to come loose, slide your fingers down along the edge to remove it completely.

Press down against the top of the battery toward the bottom of the Nook and move your finger upward. The top part of the battery should come up out of its slot. Grab hold of the battery and pull it out.
