A profile is a written portrait of a person. Often, a profile is published as a narrative non-fiction article in a newspaper, magazine, or website.

A topographic profile is a cross-sectional view along a line drawn through a portion of a topographic map. In other words, if you could slice through a portion of the earth, pull away one half, and look at it from the side, the surface would be a topographic profile.

To help visualize their values and the topography that they are showing, special contours are used for depressions, when contours enclose areas of lower value. These contours are called HACHURED contour lines. Hachured contour lines have tick marks added to them that point DOWNSLOPE.

1. Step 1 − Arrange the data in columns or rows on the worksheet.
2. Step 2 − Select the data.
3. Step 3 − On the INSERT tab, in the Charts group, click the Stock, Surface or Radar Chart icon on the Ribbon.
4. Step 4 − Point your mouse on each of the icons.
5. Step 5 − Double-click the chart type that suits your data.

Contour Charts

A surface chart plots data on a three-dimensional surface, in a similar way that topographic maps visualize elevation. The colors and patterns represent values within the same range. This chart type is especially useful for finding the optimum results when comparing two or more sets of data.

A Surface chart (or 3D Surface plot) is a chart type used for finding the optimum combinations between two sets of data. As in a topographic map, the colors and patterns indicate the areas that are in the same range of values.

Combo charts combine two or more chart types to make the data easy to understand. Shown with a secondary axis, this chart is even easier to read. You can use Combo charts when. The numbers in your data vary widely from data series to data series, or. You have mixed type of data (for example, price and volume).

Combination charts let you display different types of data in different ways on the same chart. You may display columns, lines, areas, and steps all on the same combination chart. Use them to visually highlight the differences between different sets of data.

Combination Chart

1. On the Insert tab, in the Charts group, click the Combo symbol.
2. Click Create Custom Combo Chart.
3. The Insert Chart dialog box appears. For the Rainy Days series, choose Clustered Column as the chart type. For the Profit series, choose Line as the chart type.
4. Click OK. Result:

Advantages of a Pie Chart A simple and easy-to-understand picture. It represents data visually as a fractional part of a whole, which can be an effective communication tool for the even uninformed audience.

A line chart is used to represent data over a continuous time span. It is generally used to show trend of a measure (or a variable) over time. Data values are plotted as points that are connected using line segments.

A multiple line graph shows the relationship between independent and dependent values of multiple sets of data. Usually multiple line graphs are used to show trends over time. In the graph, each data value is represented by a point in the graph that are connected by a line.

Line graphs consist of two axes: x-axis (horizontal) and y-axis (vertical), graphically denoted as (x,y). Each axis represents a different data type, and the points at which they intersect is (0,0). The x-axis is the independent axis as its values are not dependent on anything measured.

A chart is a graphical representation for data visualization, in which “the data is represented by symbols, such as bars in a bar chart, lines in a line chart, or slices in a pie chart”. A data chart is a type of diagram or graph, that organizes and represents a set of numerical or qualitative data.

So we’ll start off with four basic chart types, one for each of these value-encoding means.

• Bar chart. In a bar chart, values are indicated by the length of bars, each of which corresponds with a measured group.
• Line chart.
• Scatter plot.
• Box plot.
• Histogram.
• Stacked bar chart.
• Grouped bar chart.
• Area chart.
