Find out if the eyebrow color is a good fit by dabbing or swabbing a small amount of color on your cheek or the skin beside your eyebrow. You can test an eyebrow pencil or gel this way. The color should look 1-2 shades darker or lighter than your hair color, depending on your hair color and skin tone.

If you have naturally brown hair… If you have brown tresses, go for a medium brown shade that will do perfect justice. Also remember that your eyebrow pencil shade should be a wee bit lighter than the actual brow colour since the oils in your skin often oxidise the pigment and make it darker.

With brow gel, go for a color that is the same shade as your brows or one shade darker; with brow pencils, go one shade lighter because you want that look to be softer. When you’re drawing the illusion of hair, it looks unnatural if the pencil is darker or as dark as your hair. The lighter color gives it dimension.

Should I Let Them Trim? “We trim brows to make them look cleaner,” Yellin says. “The only time I would advise against it, is if you have thin or somewhat patchy brows.” If that’s not the case, she suggests letting your technician do their thing and snip your brows up a wee bit.
