The golden rule throughout the game is to use Wakka. Use Wakka and you can get any sphere early on excluding fortune spheres.

Don’t skip abilities on the sphere grid, save up your sphere levels and wait for more ability spheres. Ability spheres are dropped by monsters: Dual Horn (Mi’ihen Road) and Basilisk (Djose Road) are the first repeatable ones, after which they become quite common.

How to Obtain Ability Sphere

You can get a Level 1 Key Sphere from someone walking on Mi’ihen Highroad (I think they’re a Crusader), and another from someone in Rin’s Travel Agency just before the Chocobo Eater. You can get six more not long after that, if you overkill a boss.

When it comes to farming the Level 4 Key Spheres what you’ll want to do is first capture the Chimera Brains from the Calm Lands if you haven’t already. At this point in time if you haven’t already done so you may want to focus on capturing all the enemies for the Monster Arena as well, not just the Chimera Brains.

Teleport Spheres can only be obtained a few ways. Steal a Teleport Sphere from enemies. During the Boss Battle with the Three Sisters, you can steal a Teleport Sphere from Dark Mindy. Use Steal on Th’uban in the Monster Arena to obtain a Teleport Sphere.

Totally not worth it though. By the time you can reliably make that much money, those spheres won’t really be needed, because you can get tons of AP in minutes.

The Don Tonberry AP Trick is a way to quickly level up your party, getting you 50 or more AP spheres in 10 minutes or less. Performing this trick will make you complete the sphere grids for all party members really fast and will unlock the ‘Perfect Sphere Master’ Steam achievement.

Tonberry is an enemy in Final Fantasy X-2 found in Mushroom Rock Road. It is generally unadvisable to fight it in Chapters 1 and 2 because the party is fairly weak to take down an enemy with 9,999 HP (39,996 in Oversoul).

To speed the battle up, one can:

1. Attack Master Tonberry with Double Cut, since it counts as one attack but inflicts the damage of two.
2. Cast Bio spells (or even better, Bad Breath) at the start of the battle to inflict Poison.
3. Disable Master Tonberry and attack it as many times as possible while the effect lasts.

Tonberries are slow and use Chef’s Knife to deal heavy damage. Some of the stronger variants can teleport to avoid attacks and get close enough to Zack to attack.

Upon opening the treasure chest dug up with Timeworn Dragonskin Maps, there is a chance a portal to Aquapolis will appear. By accessing the portal, the current party will be teleported into the Aquapolis for a chance to gather additional loot. Party members are level synced to item level 180 while inside.
