To obtain a RADT II, you must:

Registered Addiction Specialist (RAS) Credential: Held by addiction professionals in 47 US States and 14 countries.

The Certified Addiction Specialist (CAS) credential is a clinical certification based upon experience providing treatment under the direction of a qualified clinical supervisor, specialized training, and a written examination.

As a social worker, you may be able to diagnose and treat substance abuse and mental health issues. You will also work for clients who need help in obtaining benefits. You may also work on child abuse cases and provide psychotherapy services.

A person can generally become certified within two to three years, depending on how quickly they can complete their required clinical hours. However, acquiring a graduate degree can take many years before this step.

1. Complete 25 total hours.
2. Complete 20 hours of advanced continuing education from a CCAPP approved provider. 6 of the 20 hours must be specific to counselor ethics. 5 of the 20 hours can come from any training that enhances you professionally.

“RADT” stands for “Registered Alcohol/Drug Technician” and is a position that’s specific to the state of California. This is a professional who assists people with their journey in handling their drug and alcohol addictions.

Ten (10) years clinical experience (must have minimum of 155 hours formal AOD education) The qualifying exam for the RAS Credential is the Addiction Counselor Exam or “ACE” Exam, available online daily, which may be accessed by your own computer, tablet or phone.

A completed and approved RAS Application is required prior to scheduling the RAS examination with PSI. Information about the application process and qualifications for RAS certification are available in the RAS License Application Instructions and Rule 68.70.
