To get a pressure to turn into a torque, you would need to apply the pressure to an area, which would give you a force. Then multiply that force by a moment arm to get to a torque.

Since torque is always about some point, if there’s a net force on an object you can always find some point about which there will be a torque. But you can certainly have a net force on an object that gives no torque about its center of mass.

Multiply the force times the distance to find the torque. If you know the magnitude of the force (in Newtons) and the distance (in meters), you can solve for the torque, expressed in newton-meters (N∙m).

Look at the meter at the bottom of the torque wrench. The numbers represent the amount of torque in either foot-pounds (ft. -lbs.) or Newton meters (Nm). Wherever the arrow is pointed designates the amount of torque that you’re applying to a lug or nut. In the stationary position, the wrench should read 0.

Write the number of pounds per square foot to be converted. Divide the number of pounds per square foot by 144. The quotient is the pounds per square inch. For example, 2,160 pounds per square foot converts to 15 pounds per square inch (2160 psf ÷ 144 = 15 psi).

The factor for converting a pressure in newton per square millimetre (N/mm²) units to bar pressure units is determined as follows:

1. 1 bar = 100,000 pascals (Pa)
2. 1 N/mm² = 1,000,000 pascal (Pa)
3. bar value x 100,000 Pa = N/mm² value x 1,000,000 Pa.
4. bar value = N/mm² value x 10.
