Apply denatured alcohol to a paintbrush. Brush the alcohol onto the wood and watch what happens. If the shine immediately dissolves, you don’t need to add anything to the alcohol. If the shine slowly begins to cloud and soften, mix equal parts denatured alcohol and lacquer thinner.

Rubbing alcohol stains ruin a tabletop’s appearance. Rubbing alcohol is capable of dissolving finishes such as shellac and varnish and permanently damaging wood. The longer rubbing alcohol stains remain on wood, the more damaged tabletops become.

Finished surfaces: Since the ethanol in it is a solvent, rubbing alcohol can literally liquify varnishes or finishes, doing major damage to your furniture or other surfaces in your home. Avoid using any rubbing alcohol on painted, shellacked, lacquered, or varnished surfaces, including treated wood.

Steps to Clean the Table:

• Fill a bowl with warm water.
• Add 1 or 2 tablespoons of white vinegar and/or a small amount of dish soap.
• Agitate the water to mix it well.
• Moisten the soft cloth with the sudsy water or vinegar mixture.
• Use the cloth to wipe the table.
• Rinse the cloth with clean water.

A solution of warm water, vinegar and about five drops of dish soap can clean and disinfect the furniture if soiled. Remove dust and protect using a soft cloth and non-abrasive furniture polish. Avoid polish build-up by applying furniture polish sparingly to a soft cloth and gently wiping wood surfaces.

A homemade cleaner disinfects well and is safe for any type of wood surface or wood finish.

Cleaning wood with water is not recommended either unless you are dealing with a sticky film on its surface. You should dip a cloth in water mixed with mild detergent or soap, wring off excess water, and wipe the sticky area. Use a circular motion to remove any dirt or dust.

Vinegar can clean all kinds of wood. Vinegar makes an excellent wood cleaner because it won’t damage wood finish or warp wood like other products do. Cleaning with vinegar is a green alternative to the sometimes toxic and expensive cleaners offered at the store.

Method
