Create an account at dmachoice.org. This is the Direct Marketing Association’s consumer website. It allows you to unsubscribe from all catalogs, or to select just the catalogs that you’d like to unsubscribe from. You can also opt out of receiving magazine and credit card offers.

So, here are the five simple ways you can take to help eliminate spam emails.

In fact, SPAM IS LEGAL in the United States. So to reiterate: It is legal in the U.S. to send an unsolicited commercial email. You do, however, have to comply with certain rules when sending those unsolicited emails, and if you don’t, the penalties can be very serious.

Send the item back to the company with a note to remove you from their mailing list. Also look for any junk mail that is printed with either “Change Service Requested” or “Return Service Requested.” On this junk mail, cross out your name and address and write “Refused” and drop in the outgoing mail.

If you start receiving an increased amount of spam, with junk mail filters enabled, then there might be a problem with the mailbox that your spam emails are usually moved to. You should check that the target mailbox or mail folder isn’t full or disabled.
