While in the browser, simply go to your Settings/Preferences page, and look under “Privacy,” or “Privacy and security.” Under Location/Location Services, select “Deny without prompting,” or turn on “Ask before accessing.”

To switch between users, just click the user icon that appears in the upper left corner of the browser window. The other created users will appear in a drop down menu. Select the one you want to switch to and a new window will open for that user profile.

Prevent Google from logging into Chrome browser while signing into a Google Service. Open Chrome. Type chrome://flags/#account-consistency in the address bar and press Enter. When the “Identity consistency between browser and cookie jar” flag is displayed, set it to Disabled.

LockDown Browser System Requirements

Your computer must have a functioning webcam and microphone. A broadband connection is also required. If an exam requires LockDown Browser and a webcam, follow steps 1-5 in the previous “Taking A Test” section. At this point the Startup Sequence for the webcam begins.

Respondus LockDown Browser with Monitor is an application that records the student via webcam while taking an online test. By default, Respondus Monitor will record both video and audio. Your instructor will let you know if an online exam requires the Respondus LockDown Browser application.

However, when using Respondus’ Lock Down Browser and Monitor you will be able to review specific statistics, incident flags, and video regarding the students attempt. Flagged events are when the student left the screen, a different student was seen on the screen or multiple people were visible on the screen.

Definitions: Respondus Lockdown Browser is an internet browser downloaded and installed by students, which locks down the computer on which they are taking the test so that students cannot open other applications or web pages. Lockdown Browser does not monitor or record student activity.

Respondus Monitor is an automated proctoring service for Respondus LockDown Browser that uses students’ webcams to record students during online, non-proctored quizzes, and automatically detect behaviors that could indicate cheating. It is best used as a deterrent to cheating.

The webcam functionality is designed for non-proctored environments. Respondus Lockdown Browser with Monitor enabled does not have an explicit exception function to allow an instructor to allow students to take the test without the webcam enabled.

Select the Microphone tab (second from bottom right) Select the Microphone and adjust the level (volume) Start LockDown Browser and run the webcam check from the Webcam icon in the LockDown Browser toolbar to verify the settings.

Respondus LockDown Browser monitors eye movements. This is achieved through the use of the computer’s webcam. When starting the exam/test session, a student is required to position their webcam in such a way that it fully captures their face, including eyes.

If the LockDown Browser stops responding before you start an exam or if you see a blank page that fills the computer screen, this could be due to security windows that have popped up behind the LockDown browser. If you have not started the exam, close the browser and address the security pop-up windows.
