Related Symptoms of a Failing TIPM

The most common reason that a vehicle shuts off when driving is a lack of fuel. The most likely cause is an empty fuel tank aided by a fuel gauge that’s not as accurate as it looks. Even if it says there is fuel in there, bang on the tank.

The Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) is the gateway or distribution box for nearly the entire electrical system in late-model Chrysler products. Its main purpose is to take the commands from various switches and other modules and send those commands in the form of voltage or ground to wherever it needs to go.

1. The transmission is in fail safe.
2. The air bag light stays on with no service codes.
3. The engine stalling while driving.
4. The starter cranks but won’t start.
5. The fuel pump not turning on or off.
6. The horn going off at random times or does not work.
7. Power windows not working.

Replacing the TIPM is very simple, if you can use a screwdriver you can replace the TIPM. We have videos on our website, that show how to remove the old TIPM, and put in the new one. The fuel pump not turning off and burning out. The airbags not deploying OR deploying randomly.

A TIPM repair involves shipping us your TIPM where we disassemble and test it in our shop, then replace the faulty relay(s). The most common TIPM repairs we perform are 2011-2013 model year fuel relays and 2007-2013 front wiper or door lock double relays. Vertical Visions repairs approximately 250-300 TIPMs each year.

How To Perform a TIPM Hard Reset

1. Remove ignition key.
2. Remove the negative cable from the battery.
3. Remove the positive cable from the battery.
4. Keeping cables completely clear of the battery, hold both the positive and negative cables together for 10 minutes.

It’s going to depend on the model year of Your Dodge Ram, but You’re likely going to be looking at anywhere from $500 to $100 for the replacement of Your totally integrated power module (TIPM).

The Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) on your vehicle contains an internal fuel pump relay that could operate intermittently or fail without warning. An intermittent or failed fuel pump relay could cause the engine to stall while driving and cause a crash without warning.

Symptoms of a faulty fuel relay in your TIPM: causing it to drain the battery. If the fuel pump relay starts failing, this cause rapid deterioration as it begins to solder, until the vehicle won’t start. If this happens, the pump will remain on until the battery is drained.

Carefully unplug all of the connections on the bottom of the TIPM by pushing in on the small black release in the center of each grey clip with a screwdriver, then rotating the clip downward to release it. Once all of the connections are removed, pull out the TIPM.

You can easily test for this arrangement using a test light or multimeter by detecting the absence of 12 VDC on the fuel pump fuse slot when the vehicle is off. As long as your fuel pump relay is not “stuck on”, detecting 12 VDC on the fuel pump fuse means a TIPM cable will not work.

The TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module), located near the battery in the engine compartment of a 2008 Chrysler Town & Country, houses the fuses and relays that help regulate your vehicle’s high current electrical system.

The part number you’ll need is located on a white sticker attached to the rearo or side of your TIPM. A typical part number is 04692335AG, with the last letter refering to the date of assembly. The last two letters need not match your TIPM, but the first eight numbers must be identical.

Totally Integrated Power Module
