Your Mustang is equipped with a self-adjusting clutch from the factory….A copy can be downloaded here.

1. Turn the engine off and shift into first gear.
2. Put your foot under the clutch pedal and gently pull it up until the pedal stops.
3. Push the clutch pedal down slowly. You will hear a click as the clutch adjusts itself.

You should turn the adjuster on the firewall counter-clockwise until the clutch completely disengages 2-3 inches from the floor. That is where I like it, but its a matter of personal preference. When you screw it out, it makes the housing longer and the cable tighter.

1. At the bellhousing, remove the plastic splash shield.
2. Pull the rubber bushing off of the end of the clutch cable where the cable meets the firewall.
3. Install the cable and Adjuster into the firewall and connect the cable to the Double Hook Clutch Quadrant.

The cable should have just enough tension that the pedal moves down 1/2 in. when you press it with 5-8 lb of force. If the pedal moves more than that, increase the cable tension by screwing the firewall adjuster further out of the firewall.

There are no adjustments on the 2005 Mustang clutch. It is hydraulic and uses a clutch master cylinder and a clutch slave cylinder inside the transmission. Ford no longer uses a cable for the clutch.

The clutch cable adjuster is the mechanism responsible for adjusting the slack and tension of the clutch cable on manual transmission vehicles. It is important to have the clutch cable properly adjusted to the correct slack so that the clutch pedal will effectively disengage the clutch disc when it is depressed.
