This Is How Much A Record Label Typically Invests In A New Artist. Per IFPI, a record label will typically invest anywhere from $500,000 to $2,000,000 in a newly signed artist. That’s a wide spread to be sure, and a large amount of money from the perspective of most.

Let’s assume you tour for five weeks and play a total of 30 shows (we are factoring in a few days off throughout the tour). This means your band will earn $24,000. And a band this size can make $1,000/night in merch, giving you another $30,000 in your pocket. So, the total you can make on a tour is $54,000.

$500 to $2,500

Venue ($25-40): For the use of the venue, staff, stagehands, furniture, rigging, medical staff, and more, bands can expect anywhere from 25-40% of the ticket to go directly into this. Promoter ($3-11): Of the 54-69% of the ticket left, the promoter is going to take anywhere from 5-15% to advertise the event.

Most music venues can only keep afloat becuse they make a big profit on their drinks sales. These venues only exist becuse they make most of their money from alcohol. Looking purely at ticket sales and operating costs very few venues could afford to operate.

If we extrapolate that out to a full size stadium where there may be 50,000+ attendees and concession pricing is on the high side (think $12 beers and $7 hotdogs) it’s easy to see how a venue could make hundred’s of thousands of dollars per concert. So the short answer is $0 to $500k or more. 😉
