To achieve these priorities, incident management personnel use NIMS components in accordance with three NIMS guiding principles: Flexibility. Standardization. Unity of Effort.

This three-day course is designed for those emergency response personnel who would function in a Command or General Staff position during a large, complex incident or event or personnel who are or would likely be part of a local or regional Incident Management Team during a major incident, whether single agency.

ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents is designed to teach personnel how to operate efficiently during an incident or event within the Incident Command System (ICS). ICS-200 provides training on and resources for personnel who are likely to assume a supervisory position within the ICS.

The Emergency Management Institute (EMI) offers self-paced courses designed for people who have emergency management responsibilities and the general public. All are offered free-of-charge to those who qualify for enrollment.

The IS-800 course is available through FEMA’s website. The course introduces participants to the concepts and principles of the National Response Framework. At the end of this course, participants will be able to describe: The roles and responsibilities of entities as specified in the National Response Framework.
