Traditional toll free numbers are usually not free to call internationally. The number could still be dialed from other countries but callers would be subject to international tariffs. Some ITFN, on the other hand, cannot be dialed internationally at all.

Another way to dial North American toll free numbers from abroad is by replacing the 3 digit toll free codes with other codes introduced years ago:

1. 880 replaces 800 – so the example UK to US call above would become: 00 1 880 000 0000.
2. 881 replaces 888 – again, the example US to Canada call above would be: 1 881 000 0000.

There’s no guarantee, though, that an 1800 number can be reached from overseas. Whether or not it’s possible depends on two factors. First, call routing options for each 1800 number are determined by the owner. Overseas callers won’t be able to reach the number if it’s set up to reject international calls.

A toll number in the United States is a regular 10-digit telephone number with a 3-3-4 formation. Dialing these phone numbers may not be free to the caller. If the caller is dialing from outside of their same area code, standard long-distance charges may apply.
