USPS Insurance Costs:

For Priority Mail International® (PMI) items include up to $200 insurance each for loss, damage, and/or missing contents; included insurance for document reconstruction is $100. Additional insurance may be purchased. Insurance fees are in addition to postage and vary depending on the amount of coverage (insured value).

Through Endicia software, it’s offered at no additional charge.

1. Log in to your Endicia online account.
2. From the Account tab, select Tools > File an Insurance Claim.
3. To search your account reports, click Go.
4. Find the item that you need to file an insurance claim for.
5. Select an item for which you want to file a claim, and click the File a New Claim button.

Another point to consider is that Media Mail items are not insured and are open to postal inspection. Risks: Slow delivery, risk of inspections and damaged materials, no insurance, no compensation for damages. Benefits: Dramatically cost-effective when compared to Priority Mail.

The cargo insurance premium on a single shipment is typically calculated as the insured value times the policy rate. The simplest method to calculate insured value is to add the commercial invoice value of the goods to the cost of freight and add ten percent to cover additional expense.

Eligible shippers can declare a value of up to $100,000 per domestic shipment and up to $25,000 on shipments sent to select international destinations. You must have a FedEx account to participate in this program, and each Declared Value Advantage agreement will have specific terms for each customer.

Particularly in the case of international shipping where the potential risk for loss or damage of goods is far higher than domestic shipping.

Package forwarding is a safe, reliable, and inexpensive way to buy from the US and ship your items internationally. Insurance is optional with international package forwarding shipments. The only person who can decide whether or not insurance is necessary is you.
